- Girding our loins at the foot of Raven Crag (on the northern flank of Mellbreak)
- And off we go …
- Up a steep scree slope …
- While casting furtive sideways glances at Whiteside and Grasmoor …
- And catching our breath every now and again …
- As well as trying to avoid vertigo looking down at our intrepid leader …
- Could we possibly have scrambled up this way?
- The slope called for some fancy footwork …
- Before easing off a tad …
- But then we had to tackle further steepness …
- And a bit more until …
- The north top – hooray!
- The sun-drenched summit plateau was delightful …
- If a tad boggy …
- And the view from the south top was magnificent
- It was then time to start descending …
- With the smiles as bright as the weather …
- Despite some more steepness …
- And then a bit more
- Luckily, we all have good brakes
- Good practice for skiing, wouldn’t you say?
- Crummock Water and Buttermere in their delightful setting
- Then it was down Scale Knott …
- Until we reached the bottom of the valley …
- And then detoured via Low Ling Crag …
- Before returning along the lakeshore path …
- While delighting in the moodiness of the scene
